A man that I will call John, said to me “We need more church planters! I like the model that every pastor must plant a church before getting hired on/called at an existing church”
Response: John, I strongly and biblically disagree with that. Yes, established churches can be hard, but suffering for the sake of the gospel and biblical change is meant to teach a pastor to love the church as Christ does. Not every person is gifted to plant a church. That is an “apostolic” gifting, neither is everyone called to “revitalize” a church. Also, there is a certain rebel spirit and arrogance I have observed of far too many church planters. …there are too many churches that turn a blind eye to a man’s character or theology because he has zeal to start a church. Character and ability to teach, not entrepreneurial success is the qualification for ministerial leadership.
