The doctrinal truth of suffering as part of discipleship and the Gospel has been on my mind for a while. Jesus suffered and said we would if we follow Him. It’s guaranteed but we aren’t given the specifics of how it will play out. Like a coin has two sides, on the other side of suffering for Christ and developing spiritual muscle by its training is comfort and joy. Paul rejoiced in being counted worthy to share in Christ’s sufferings. For the joy set before Him, Jesus endured the cross. The hardship is part of plan. The early church treasured Jesus Himself more than their property which was plundered, their jobs which they were forced out of, their families who in some cases hunted them down and turned them in. Lord, give me joy in suffering for You, strengthen my weakness for Your glory. Give me both humility and boldness. Amen
