This week we are studying Exodus 24, today we will wrap it up and zero in on verses 15-18, #Gen1toRev22

Exodus 24:15-18 (NKJV)
15 Then Moses went up into the mountain, and a cloud covered the mountain. 16 Now the glory of the LORD rested on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days. And on the seventh day He called to Moses out of the midst of the cloud.  17 The sight of the glory of the LORD was like a consuming fire on the top of the mountain in the eyes of the children of Israel.  18 So Moses went into the midst of the cloud and went up into the mountain. And Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights.”

After Moses placed Aaron and Hur in charge, he ascended the mountain and entered into the cloud. This cloud was the Shekinah glory of God. His Presence was manifested in a supernatural manner that is not normal. You could see the cloud. I wonder what Moses felt as he entered into the cloud.

For six days, the cloud covered the mountain and all we know is that on the seventh, which God calls hallowed, the Lord call Moses out of the cloud. Moses would spend 40 days and nights with the Lord on the mountain. Forty is the number of completion in the Bible, 40 days of fasting, 40 years of wondering. During these days Moses would receive instruction. During those glorious days of the manifest presence of God, the children of Israel saw as it were a consuming fire upon the mountain.

  • To those far off from the Lord, He looks fearsome and His power consuming.
  • To the one called near, the voice of the Lord is heard.

Hebrews 12:28-29 (NKJV)
28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. 29 For our God is a consuming fire.”

Pray It

Father, to behold Your Glory overwhelms me! Your Presence, the supernatural manifestation of Your Goodness is such a blessing and glimpse of Heaven. Lord, I pray for those who stand afar off and do not personally KNOW You. Lord, through Your Son Jesus, may they be brought near and hear Your voice. I pray specifically for  _____________. Amen.
