This week we are studying Exodus 24, in the first 3 verses, we we see people Called to A Meeting with God #Gen1toRev22

In the first 3 verses:
1 Then he said to Moses, “Come up to the LORD, you and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel, and worship from afar. 2 Moses alone shall come near to the LORD, but the others shall not come near, and the people shall not come up with him.” 3 Moses came and told the people all the words of the LORD and all the rules. And all the people answered with one voice and said, “All the words that the LORD has spoken we will do.” Exodus 24:1-3 (ESV)

Observe the Context/Details
The preceding chapters have been additional Laws beyond the 10 commandments that the Lord had given to Israel for their instruction and blessing. In this passage, instead of new commands, there is another meeting with God in the making.

Vs. 1-2 Moses and specific men are called to go up with Moses and worship, however Moses alone was called to go nigh the Lord.

Application: You are called by God, in Christ, to come near to Him. He does not call you to worship from afar. I treasure this truth – what a blessing the Presence of the Lord is!

James 4:8a (ESV)
Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.

Vs. 3 Moses reiterates the commands of the Lord to the Israelites and they are quick to respond that they will obey.

I am reminded of a time when I was at a conference and we were asked to make a commitment decision with our small group that we would take seriously living for Christ. I remember one of our associate youth pastors turning to my group and asking us to really think about what we would decide and not to be too quick to say, “yes, I will.”

Application: Am I hasty to offer a token, “yes” to the Lord or have I truly counted the cost?

Pray it:
Father, You have called me by name to come close to you. Lord, I hear your words, and I desire to wholly follow you in obedience. I know that I cannot do so by might, nor by power but only by your Spirit. I thank You for the blessing of Your Presence. Amen.
