A necessary part of gardening is pruning. It is needed if the plant is to look beautiful and produce more bountifully. An unpruned plant is unattractive and is unhealthy. All those extra branches and leaves are making the roots work harder to support and feed.
In our lives with Christ it is the same. Pruning is necessary. Sometimes we may think that we are the ones’ pruning our lives but, for the Believer, the promise is sure that the Father is our soul’s gardener (John 15).
